Start on the Saddle River County Park bike path — six miles of riverside trail running from Ridgewood down through Fair Lawn, Paramus, Saddle Brook, and Rochelle Park, with a waterfall at the Dunkerhook area and a duck pond when you want a bench. Dinner in whichever downtown you parked near, then home.

Van Saun County Park straddles Paramus and River Edge: the Bergen County Zoo, a carousel, and the kind of long looping paths made for a second-date conversation. History nerds can detour to the 1753 Steuben House at Historic New Bridge Landing on the Hackensack River.

Overpeck County Park is 800+ acres across five towns with a kayak launch into Overpeck Creek and five miles of walking trails. Rent the afternoon, walk the creek, argue about where to eat — Teaneck and Ridgefield Park both win that argument regularly.
